The Friends of Rippey met Sunday, July 24, at the Rippey Community Room.
Items discussed included completion of the sidewalk to the entrance of the community room with funding coming from the Greene County Community Foundation, the Friends of Rippey and the city of Rippey.
Mark Devilbiss will be installing 38 more bricks into the Rippey School memorial. Additional requests for bricks continue to be mailed to the Friends of Rippey and the next order will be placed Sept. 1.
A report was given by Mary Ann Young Miller regarding the time capsule and what has been collected to be inserted. Additional items may be left at the Rippey library. The deadline will be the fall of 2016.
A recognition of the late Keith Devilbiss’s work will be either a bench at the Memorial, or the Osborn Park. Marc Devilbiss will be contacted regarding his wishes for the memorial for his Father.
Arrangements for a dessert reception following the Town and Country Band concert Aug. 13 were discussed. The Greene County veterans group will provide desserts. The street will be closed so the band will be playing in front of the Library and participants listening can bring lawn chairs and sit on the lawn. If it is raining the concert will be in the Rippey Community Room. This will be a fundraiser for the painting of the Greene County Freedom Rock.
Discussion was held about Calendar Day and Christmas celebration. It was determined to talk with the two Rippey banks and other businesses to solicit funds and items for an old-fashioned “drawing,” the type that was held several years ago in the Rippey Community.
The Friends of Rippey will seek volunteers to aid in the serving of refreshments for the band concert.
Friends of Rippey Yoga – The Friends of Rippey Yoga group under the direction of Judy Tomenga will host a “Yoga at the Beach” on Saturday, Aug. 6.
Participants are asked to bring a beach towel and bottle of water and to wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing. It is not necessary to have “yoga clothing”. This is free and open to campers at Spring Lake, or any other interested individuals in Greene County.
This event will begin at 8 am and will last about 60 minutes. It is being organized and sponsored by the Rippey Yoga class.
Individuals who are active Yoga users, or novices are welcome to attend this one time summer event. It will held at the south end of the public beach area of Spring Lake.
Judy Tomenga, a rural Greene County resident is a certified yoga instructor and will lead the group in traditional yoga stretching poses.
The Rippey yoga groups meets weekly at the Community Room at 7:15 am. All are welcome.

Adult Sunday school at 9:45 am; worship at 11 am. Every Tuesday, quilters at 9 am, coffee and fellowship at 10 am.
Children’s Sunday school, ladies aid and Lions Club will resume meeting in September.
We are collecting backpacks and goodies for inside. Back to school sales have started. Backpacks will be blessed on Aug. 7 during worship.
Family visit – Visitors in the Nancy and Dale Hanaman Home were Nancy’s sister and husband Sharon and Phil McBlain of Hamden, CT, and their daughter Kristina Beckley and Claire and Anne of Carlisle, MA. They visited with John and Dena Bardole at their lake home in southern Iowa and then traveled to Nancy and Dale’s home. They enjoyed the pool in Perry, catching fireflies, picking corn at Midge and Ben Vannatta and a visit to the Greene County Fair. Claire and Anne made a nest of grass and mud shortly before they headed to the airport on Saturday. No bird tenants have been located yet.
Wisconsin visit – Dale and Nancy Hanaman journeyed to Wisconsin to celebration the 15th birthday of grandson Steven Pearson. They then traveled on to Augusta, WI. to share in the 45th wedding anniversary celebration of friends, Debbie and Bob Nugent from Cumberland, WI.
Arizona visit – Jean Borgeson dropped her son Robert at the airport on Friday. He was headed for Chandler, AZ, to spend a couple days with his sister Linda and Blake Hampton, Sierra, Sophia, and Jayden. On Sunday evening, he and Linda loaded the van with kids and stuff to start their trip back to Iowa. Blake will join his family next week for the drive back to Chandler. It will be lively for a while around our little corner of the world!!
80th birthday – Jean Borgeson joined her sister Elayne Bice of Johnston on Saturday and together they attended the 80th birthday reception of Carrel Breeding at the Chamberlain House at Wesley Acres. Carrel’s three children, Karla Johnson, Jeff Breeding, and Rhonda Lucy were hosts for the event. Other relatives attending were Lorna Fogue and her children R. W. and Vickie.
On the way home, Jean stopped at the Pattee Hotel where the Woodward class of 1956 was having its class reunion. Dean Bice, Jean’s brother-in-law and Ann Siglin of Hollis, NH, cousin of the sisters, were among the graduating class celebrating. Also, a classmate of Jean’s from Tucson was attending because her husband was also part of the class, so these two ladies had a wonderful visit.
